The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “harming young minds” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on coded rhetoric and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for education and children.”
Reform, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks suggested the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with education – truly monumental. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned at school, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and millions of days of lost learning for students.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I mean this. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
