The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
