The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to appear in the upcoming Hunger Games series film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Comeback for the Franchise
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their appearance will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, as the original saga concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several accomplished actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
- Filming was completed in November of the same year.
- The much-discussed film is slated for November 2026 release.
