Iranian Forces State Attack on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
It said debris fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
