Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
