Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to change things and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager expressed regret over known failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with performances this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
