Accused Harasser Inquired: 'However Suppose I Am Madeleine?'
A woman indicted with harassing Kate McCann reportedly left her a voicemail message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court learned phone records and information recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and is still open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another voicemail, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Imagine there is a small chance that I'm her? What happens next? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a living here in Poland, I just want to understand," she added.
The panel was advised that through emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who gathered the data, told the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with family friends of the McCanns, based on the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
That day Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."
The court heard the co-defendant developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' property in that area in that winter.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the period leading up to the trip to that location, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court was told correspondence between the two individuals, in that autumn, considering trying to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We must assert ourselves," the co-defendant informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their house, the defendant sent a text which expressed: "We find ourselves sitting near the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark like investigators. I desired to do this with another person I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The case continues.
