A Mountain of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays offer a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and using meditation skills to refrain from snapping at loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments emerged over the break, and if you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most surprising revelation, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt further production. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it still retained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has not yet been announced.
